A group of Health and Social Care students from Carmel College visited Alder Hey’s Innovation Hub on 5th March 2025 to explore how cutting-edge technology is transforming the healthcare landscape.
The students, all aspiring to careers in healthcare or childcare, were introduced to the role of innovation within the NHS through a series of interactive sessions and engaging talks.
The visit featured:
- An introduction to the wide range of careers at Alder Hey, from music therapists to surgeons.
- An insight into what it is like to work with robots and a hands-on RPA (Robotic Process Automation) activity where students mapped out their daily routines to understand process automation.
- Virtual reality (VR) demonstrations to show how immersive tech is used for training and clinical education.
- A design thinking session highlighting how human-centred design helps solve real-world hospital challenges.
The experience gave students a new perspective on the breadth of roles in healthcare, as well as the importance of innovation in improving patient care.
“The part I liked most about the day was having to think of new ideas and be creative”
